The Rise and Fall of Fashion in Universities Part Two – Treachery Thy Name is University

Louis Vuitton

A woman’s handbag is her most valuable daily possession. It is her portable jewelry box, her safe, her portable assistant and her closest ally.

It contains her identity, her look, her work, her connection to the world and who knows what else. But as our attention span shortens and we choose new

allies every day, need new looks every week and change assistant every year, being a women’s handbag is not as stable a job as it used to be.

This trend applies to numerous accessories and clothes, and as much as it is good for the economy, is on the front page of my fashion’s sins list.

However, this is what we love about fashion isn’t it? When we think we’ve figured it out, it taps you on the shoulder and smacks you with a dress made out of meat.

The trend is strongest among students reaching their 20s. Raised in the era of the internet and “Just-in-time” where all we know and feel is forever

changing, clothes and accessories are no longer faithful allies that can be relied on for years, but enemies that haven’t revealed themselves, as campus fashion is as diverse as it is unpredictable.

I asked 100 women between 18 and 22 to name three of the top qualities they look consider most when shopping. 68 answered “a low price” whilst

only 19 answered“durability”. Any item bought on these terms is merely expected to last for one night out before being replaced the next day. This obviously translates

into a lack of quality from certain makers who would rather concentrate on cutting overheads to stay afloat amidst the rise in number of discount retail shops.

Designer Handbags

But what kind of a safe breaks 24 hours after being purchased? What kind of ally turns on you before you even get acquainted? Lastly, if a handbag contains a woman’s

identity, what is to be said about the fact that it is changed every 3 months? There is definitely a parallel, or at least a common factor, between youth’s instability or uneasiness and this trend.

Fashion is great. It is forever changing. It can be cheap; it can be expensive. But one thing that fashion should not be, is expendable.
